Some Day Has Arrived

Okay, I know it's been forever since I updated, but by now that should come as no surprise!

I just had to write today to tell you about the wonderful Mother's Day gift that I got yesterday. It actually was a two-part gift. I came home from work and was told to not ask questions, change my clothes and meet Kevin and Hannah at the high school tennis courts near our house. When I got there the first & best part of my gift was riding around on her bike! Hannah had learned to finally ride her bike the day before!!! We had been trying to teach her for soooo long and I guess Saturday was her day. I could not have been prouder.

The second part of my gift was this:

I have always wanted a bike like this. I love the look of them and the feelings that they evoke for me when I see them. I mentinoned in passing that some day I would love to have one these bikes and my wonderful husband decided not to wait for some day! Hannah and I rode home on our bikes and are looking forward to many more rides together.

Little House on the Prairie 2008

First update in a loooooooong while, but it's a cute one!

Last week Hannah's class had pioneer day as they have been studying this in school. Of course I learned about it the night before! But thanks to our good neighbours and friends across the street all was not lost. They have an abudance of costumes (from years of dance recitals of their 3 girls) and they came to my rescue with the perfect outfit.

Hannah looked so charming I wished she could dress like this everyday! Turns out she was the only one in costume, but she wasn't fazed and seemed really happy to have been able to dress up.

Life and the Undead!

Crazy busy lately! My new job at Michael's is going well. I am slowly learning how to become a custom framer. It's good to learn a new skill. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks!

Latest project for my business was a custom frame for one of my best (and favourite) clients in Los Angeles. S. needed something personal for her husband as a 6th anniversary present. She provided the quote - me, the creative design! The photo has been blurred for her privacy.

This is just one example of the custom work that I can do - so don't hestitate to contact me if you are looking for a unique gift for that special someone!

Halloween tomorrow! Love this "holiday" and I am so glad Hannah does too. We had a practice run on her zombie costume on the weekend. NO princesses in this house! It's all about creepy, scary and ghoulish!

I love doing special FX makeup. Almost made it a career, but now I just get to have fun once a year!

Kevin, Hannah and I went to my parents this year for Thanksgiving. They still live in Cobourg where I was born and raised. It is always nice to go home as I love Cobourg, but it is always hard to see the changes that continue to happen to my hometown.

The rock beach is one of our most favourite places to visit when we go to Cobourg, but there have been some major changes to it in the last little while. People who live along the beach have now put up signs prohibiting people from walking all the way along the beach (like we did when we were kids!). They claim they own the land right up to the water. As Kevin pointed out, this means their property line changes depending on the the tide! I understand their frustration with people leaving garbage and it making it's way onto their property, but come on!

Now there is only a very tiny section of beach that you can walk and enjoy. It really threw all of us for a loop and made me quite sad. I am usually okay with change, but this hit me harder than I thought it would. Kevin also pointed out that these are probably the same people who complained about the "intrusive" noise of the train whistles as they go through town. What's next?

All was not lost on this trip. We had a wonderful time with my parents in their new house (which I am realizing I don't have a single picture of!). My brother joined us over the weekend and we ate good food and played LOTS of Scrabble! The love of family never changes . . .

I guess in the end as long as my family is in Cobourg it will always be home.

Very quick update this morning as I am heading off to work soon.

Last Thursday, my friend G. asked Hannah and I to go apple picking with her and her kids. They picked me up after work and we headed out to Apple Hill Fruit Farm which is about 20 minutes away. I had never been apple picking before - which is hard to believe considering I grew up in apple country! It was alot more fun than I thought it would be and we all had a good time. We picked our fill of apples (some of which we took to my parents for Thanksgiving apple crisp), bought some apple cider and headed home. A very lovely end to the day . . .
